Two-Day Workshop on “Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources in Pakistan”
Concludes at NCEG Peshawar November 19, 2025– A two-day national workshop on “Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources in Pakistan,” jointly organized by the National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG) and the Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Engineering (CEWRE), concluded today with an impressive closing Ceremony.
The ceremony was graced by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Khan Kundi, as Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests were Dr. Qasim Jan, Professor Emeritus, NCEG; Dr. Naeem Qazi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Peshawar; Muhammad Yasir, Director NAVTTC; and Ms. Shazia Gulzar, GIS Specialist, Soil and Water Conservation Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Engr. Rooh Ul Muhsin, DG Water and Resources Regulatory Authority, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa served as Guests of Honor.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali, Director NCEG, highlighted the Centre’s contributions to academia, industry, and government sectors. The Chief Guest, in his remarks, lauded the efforts of NCEG and expressed confidence in its continued contributions toward addressing national-level scientific challenges.  The Governor expressed willingness to provide government support to NCEG. He also distributed shields and certificates among the guests, resource persons, participants, and organizers.
The workshop had detailed technical sessions focused on climate-induced challenges to Pakistan’s water resources. Renowned experts including Dr. Muhammad Waseem, Dr. Amjad Masood, and Engr. M. Awais Zafar from CEWRE; Dr. Said Muhammad, Dr. Muhammad Ali, Dr. Wajid Ali, and Dr. Khaista Rahman from NCEG; Dr. Muhammad Waqar Azeem from Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak; and Dr. Zahid Rauf from Pakistan Forest Institute delivered insightful presentations on emerging issues and sustainable solutions.
A dedicated session on World GIS Day 2025 was also integrated into the workshop. Dr. Saad Khan, Dr. Muhammad Ali, and Dr. Abid Sarwar emphasized the critical role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in analyzing climate dynamics and water-related vulnerabilities. Vote of Thanks were presented by Prof. Dr. Qazi Naeem, Pro- Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar.
The workshop was led by Chief Organizers Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali and Prof. Dr. M. Atiq Ur Rehman. The organizing committee included Dr. Seema Anjum Khattak, Dr. Muhammad Ali, and Dr. Saad Khan from NCEG, along with Dr. Muhammad Waseem, Dr. Amjad Masood, and Engr. M. Awais Zafar from CEWRE.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from academia, government, and professionals to collectively address the  challenges posed by climate change to Pakistan’s water resources
