National Centre of Excellence in Geology Hosts Workshop on Geophysical Tools for Coal Exploration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG) at the University of Peshawar successfully conducted a two-day technical workshop on "Geophysical Tools for Coal Exploration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" from July 30-31, 2025. The event took place at the RAK Tahirkheli Auditorium within the NCEG premises and was made possible through the sponsorship of the Higher Education Commission under NRPU Project No. 17203.
The workshop provided comprehensive training on advanced exploration techniques including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electrical Resistivity surveys and geochemical analysis including froth flotation processes, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and coal upgradation methods. These sessions were designed to enhance professional capabilities in coal exploration and resource development.
Attended by students, researchers, and industry professionals from both public and private sectors, the workshop facilitated valuable knowledge exchange between academia and the mineral exploration industry. Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali, Director of NCEG and Principal Investigator of the HEC NRPU Project, led the event as Chief Organizer with support from organizing committee members Dr. Muhammad Younis Khan, Dr. Asghar Ali, and Mr. Ihtisham Ullah.
