I. Background and Objective
In today’s world, with ever-increasing globalization, the escalating competition and cooperation among countries and regions in energy, resources, sciences, technologies and economy, etc. are growing constantly. The establishment of China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences (hereafter called “CPJRC”) will play a critical role in promoting academic and scientific exchange and collaboration between Pakistan and China.
CPJRC, which is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, is to join efforts of both Chinese and Pakistani scientists to carry out scientific research on natural disasters, environment, geology, ecology, climate change and sustainable development in Pakistan, especially along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
With this insight and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between China and Pakistan, CPJRC is planning to launch the China-Pakistan High- Level Webinar on Earth Sciences Cooperation with the theme of Sustainable Development of CPEC: Vision for China-Pakistan Science and Technology Cooperation in Earth Sciences on 18 March, 2021. The Webinar will highlight and discuss the priority areas and existing research and development gaps in the field of earth sciences and provide a platform for capacity-building of young geoscientists.

VII. Expected Output
- A Report of China-Pakistan High-Level Webinar on Earth Sciences Cooperation, which include the details of this Webinar, will be compiled and published as a guide for future cooperation on earth sciences research. It could also serve as a reference for policy- making on the science and technology development roadmap.
- Based on this Webinar, four more thematic seminars will be held in 2021 to build a systematic mechanism for the academic exchange of the scientists and students from both China and Pakistan and provide scientific support to CPEC construction.
