The National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG), University of Peshawar is the leading Earth Sciences Research and Higher Education institution in the country. Established under the Parliament Act in 1974, the Centre offers post-graduate study programs including Ph.D, M.Phil, MS and Post-Graduate Diploma awarded by the University of Peshawar. This Centre has state of the art laboratories (including Electron Microprobe (EPMA), Wet-Geochemistry, X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), X-Ray Diffractometre (XRD), GIS/Remote Sensing, Thin section Cutting and Polishing , GPS Geodesy, Petroleum Geochemistry, Hydrogeophysics, Petrography/Microscopy, Environmental Soil Science, Paleontology) and a National Library of Earth Sciences. The Centre has highly qualified faculty with 17 Ph.D, 12 M.Phil, assisted by 15 Research Associates. Recognizing Centre’s contributions in the field of Earth & Environmental Sciences, the Government of Pakistan has awarded the Center’s faculty with 5 Civil Awards and 4 Presidential Awards.

NCEG, University of Peshawar started 1-year (2 semesters, fall and spring) Post graduate Diploma in GIS & Remote Sensing in 2002. Since then over 244 students have graduated under this Diploma program. For the session 2013-14, NCEG announces admission in Post Graduate Diploma in GIS & Remote sensing.
Eligibility
- A minimum qualification is a Bachelor degree in Science (B.Sc/BS) with at least second division.
- Preference will be given to those having geology, geography, environmental sciences and engineering degrees with computer background.

- Interview** of the selected candidates will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 28, 2013 at NCE in Geology, University of Peshawar.
- Merit list date is September 02, 2013.
- Admissions and fee deposition at the Centre’s office September 02 – 06, 2013.
- Classes will be started from September 09, 2013.

The diploma is relevant to the construction materials and earth, applicable in the field of construction of buildings, roads and dams. On completion, students will be ready for an effective role in the national building projects. Further, the students will be trained to take responsibilities in projects implementation as an Engineering Geologist/Geotechnical Engineers in the construction of civil structures.

- Graduates having Bachelor degree at least in second division in Geology / Civil Engineering / Mining Engineering.

Prescribed application forms are available at Centre’s office on a payment of Rs. 250/- (for GIS/RS) and Rs. 100 (for GMTE) or can be downloaded from Centre’s website i.e. http://nceg.upesh.edu.pk and pay the applicable amount at the time of submission.
