The National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar is the leading Earth Sciences Research and Higher Education institution in the country. Established under the Parliament Act in 1974, the Centre offers post-graduate study programs including Ph.D, M.Phil, MS and Post-Graduate Diploma awarded by the University of Peshawar. This Centre has highly qualified faculty, state of the art laboratories including Electron Microprobe (EPMA), Wet-Geochemistry, X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF),X-Ray Diffractometre (XRD),GIS/Remote Sensing, Thin section Cutting and Polishing , GPS Geodesy,  Petroleum Geochemistry, Hydrogeophysics, Petrography/Microscopy,Environmental Soil Science, Paleontology, and a National Library of Earth Sciences. The Centre has highly qualified faculty with 13 Ph.D, 5 M.Phil, assisted by over 20 Research Associates with M.Phil and Masters degrees. Recognizing Centre’s contributions in the field of Earth & Environmental Sciences, the Government of Pakistan has awarded the Center’s faculty with 4 Civil Awards and 4 Presidential Awards.
National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar started 1-year Post graduate Diploma in GIS & Remote Sensing in 2002.Since then over 255 students have graduated under this Diploma programme. For the session 2012-13, NCEG announces admission in Post Graduate Diploma in GIS & Remote sensing.
