"EFFECTS OF HEAT TREATMENT AND FREEZE-THAW CYCLING ON MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF ROCKS"

Mr. Abid Nawaz, PhD Scholar, NCE in Geology, successfully defended his PhD thesis under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Sajid, Assistant Professor Department of Geology, University of Peshawar and Co-supervision of Dr. Waqas Ahmed, Associate Professor at NCE in Geology. Dr. M. Zafar from Bahria University Islamabad served as external evaluator. His project was entitled by "Effects of Heat Treatment and Freeze-Thaw Cycling on Mechanical Behavior of Rocks". He investigated the effects of temperature variations, ranging from below freezing up to 1000 centigrade, in the different rock types of north Pakistan. The outcomes of the research are highly applied to small-scale and large-scale civil and infrastructure projects in northern Pakistan. He has published four articles in the international reputed journals from this research. The examination committee and the audience critically applauded the research.
