" Effects of Rhizosphere Soil Physicochemical Characteristics on Phytochemicals and Antioxidant Activity in Taxus Wallichiana of Galiyat-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa "
Mrs. Sanam Zarif Satti, a Ph.D Scholar of Environmental Geosciences Discipline of NCE in Geology, University of Peshawar, defended her thesis titled “EFFECTS OF RHIZOSPHERE SOIL PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS ON PHYTOCHEMICALS AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY IN TAXUS WALLICHIANA OF GALIYAT-KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA” supervised by Dr Samina Siddiqui, Associate Professor of NCE in Geology, UoP, and Co supervised by Dr Asim Shahzad Distinguish professor Henan University of China, on 6th Dec 2O24 at 1O AM in the Tahir Kheli auditorium of NCEG. Her PhD thesis was evaluated by three foreigners evaluators from University of Florida in USA, China and Pakistan. The internal examiner was Professor Dr Bushra Khan of Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Peshawar.
She defended her research work on the effect of climate stresses on exotic Taxus wallichiana (Himalayn yew) of moist temperate forest of Galiyat. It was concluded that TW is under constant threat to human induced climate change and ill legal cutting of TW must be avoided. This species needs to be protected because it sequestered more carbon and nitrogen in the soil. Therefore, it is necessary for forest management that TW nursery must be grown to mitigate climate change.
