Geol.715 Introduction to Geological Processes (3C.H)
Course contents: Introduction to the origin of the earth, age of the earth and methods of its determination, geologic time scale, internal structure of the earth, plate tectonics (continental drift, sea floor spreading, rifting, Wilson cycle), rock deformation (folds, faults, joints and their attitude – strike/dip), mountain building, earthquakes, surface water, ground water, glaciers and glaciation, deserts and winds, shorelines (waves, tides).
Practical: learning on how to collect dip and strike data in the field. Reading and interpretation of geological maps.
