Envg.790 Environment and Urbanization (3 C.H)
Course Objectives
This course will enable the students to understand the impact of urbanization on the environment.
Course Contents
- The dynamics of urbanization: rapid economic growth, relocation of populations from rural areas to cities and towns, the agglomeration of secondary and tertiary industries in urban areas, increase in the number of towns
- Urbanization affects the condition of the environment: levels of polluting emissions, shift in production, changes in the population’s behavior patterns after migrating from rural to urban areas
- Methodology to determine and evaluate the dynamic effects of urbanization and economic development on the environment, quantitative models: first model is U-shaped relationship between urbanization and the environment, second model employ explanatory variables, third model applying an overall regional perspective such as empirical multi-factor comparative analyses on the relationship between urbanization and the environment to determine the interaction between, and the manageability of, urbanization and changes in the natural environment.
