Earthquake resisting re-construction requires a new paradigm based on capacity building of the community, designers, engineers and construction related professionals. This requires a cultural change from centuries old non seismic resisting construction to seismic resisting practices. Community education is an essential ingredient for bringing this change. In this paper the role and effectiveness of community training methods has been analyzed on the basis of field data from the housing reconstruction program in earthquake affected areas of northern Pakistan. The case study of the district Battagram has been selected to explore the effects of training in the capacity building of community on the basis of priori and posteriori analysis of the selected samples from the population. The study has shown that proper education and training of the community on seismic resisting construction techniques has brought substantial change in the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the community towards earthquake resisting re-construction.
